Emotions? Fatigue? The sheer fact that they were playing against the best team in the leauge? Blame it on what you want, but the outing facts remain the same, when the final buzzer sounded on yesterdays manatee make up of Friday's cancelled game with Pittsburgh, Tuukka Rask had played his worst game of this 2013 NHL season. As said before, Rask gave up 3 goals on 24 shots amounting to a horrendous .875 save percentage as the Bruins gave up an early 1 nothing lead before ending the night on the wrong end of a 3-2 final.
Looking back on the night, the Bruins opened the scoring just over 10 minutes into the game as after a slashing minor assessed to Matt Cooke, 3rd year Bruin Brad Marchand absolutely picked apart the Pittsburgh defense before preforming a beautiful toe drag to tuck his team leading 17th tally of the year past Thomas Vokoun. At that point the Bruins were dominating play and when the 1st period ended those watching would not be faulted to believe that in 40 minutes the Bruins would manage to pull out a victory. They were wrong. By the end of the second period, despite the Bruins once again out shooting the Penguins 15 to 11, the game was tied and Tuukka Rask seemed to be struggling.
"Not too often I cost a game. Today I did. That's just how it is sometimes," ... "It's always tough for a goalie when you don't break a sweat and you lose, so that kind of sucks." Rask said following the game, and really while Rask did in fact loose the game, it wasn't just the sheer fact that he was outscored that made last night sting so bad. What was so terrible about yesterdays 4th straight loss, was the pathetic quality of the last two shots scored against Rask.
In the wake yesterdays game, Tuukka Rask basically threw himself under the bus, yet after what ranks as one of the worst games he has ever played, coach Claude Jullian never lost faith in his starter as he shocked us all by, giving Rask a second chance if you will in today's Sunday afternoon clash with the Panthers.
Less than 24 hours after loosing 3-2 to the Penguins, the Bruins downed the Panthers, all riding on the back of the goalie whom they never lost faith in.
