After losing 3 straight games, a rejuvenated Red Sox team has leaped back into form and has now won 4 straight.
Fact is after the all-star rosters were announced last Sunday, it was evident that at least 3 of Boston's own would be making the trip to NYC come July 16th . Nevertheless, 1 of them was injured and wouldn't actually play and well for the other 24 Red Sox who would not be going to Gotham for the 2013 All Star Game, they had been working like crazy all season long and it seemed like at least for a few days the side effect of that hard work was beginning to take its toll.
Fresh of an intense 5 game win streak, the Sox went back to LA just one day after they beat the Angels 6-2 last Friday. Yet unlike their fortunes in the first game of that 3 game set, the Sox faltered in game 2 loosing 3-0 and kicking off a string of difficult uncertainty that would ultimately hold Boston winless for 3 straight days
“We’re a little beat up right now." Sox manager John Farrell said following that withering loss to the Mariners back on Monday "We’re a little short defensively with position players, with day-to-day managing what we’re doing with some physical ailments,”
According to ESPN writer Adam Lewis, Farall seemed a little worried when he stated the above quote and at this time 5 days ago, yeah he had a pretty good reason to be. 4 reasons actually.
With Buchholz out until at least after the All Star Break, and Andrew Miller likely gone for the year with a foot injury. A then recent hamstring strain suffered by Shane Victorino and an additional stint on the DL handed to Jacoby Ellsbury via a sore wrist was kicking the Sox in the pants as those two injuries alone took the #1 and 2 hitters on Boston's lineup card.
Regardless, as quick as that string of winless baseball had commenced, it ended Tuesday as a wacky 11-8 final saw the Sox clench their first win of the week and punch in their 55th win of the season. That was where the Red Sox' luck flipped back in their favor.
Since that Tuesday victory, the Boston Red Sox have won 4 straight games, scored 34 runs, and now stand alone as by 4 games the best team in the AL and by 2 games, the best team in Baseball.
95 games into the MLB season the Boston Red Sox are the best team in baseball. Best team in baseball, best team in baseball. As a fan of the team, I can't help but hope that that title will carry them through October and eventually award them with the ultimate prize: a World Series.
