He has played in the NFL for 14 years and in truth, when he his inducted into the hall of fame, he will be one of the lowest drafted Hall of Famers in the history of football. He could easily be argued to be the greatest quarter back in history and has thrown almost 100 fewer interceptions than Peyton Manning. Long story short, when Tom Brady plays, the Patriots win. When he doesn't (as was true in 2008) they don't.
Well, New England fans were laden with quite a scare today as amidst their final edition of training camp, the mighty number 12 fell to the ground with an apparent knee injury. He was not hit on the play but according to a fan report, Nate Solder was pushed back and shoved onto Brady's knee. Such an account suggests that the Patriot QB hyper extended the joint or in a far more brutal possibility, re-tore the ACL that took him out of the entire 2008 NFL season.
As it stands, Brady went off the field for a play, flexing his knee several times before moving back onto the playing surface for 2 snaps. Apparently deeming the injury to painful to play through, Brady then left the field and did not return for the entire reminder of practice.
"I bull rushed the tackle and apparently he tripped and fell onto Brady" Buccaneers Adrian Claybore: the man who pushed Solder said post-practice.
"I screwed somethings up here and there" Solder said obviously speaking under the Bill Belicheck veil of 'talk or die' secrecy.
Now for Patriots fans, news like this is well, terrifying. In 2008 Tom Brady was brutally injured by Benard Pollard. He missed each of the remaining 15 games of the year and his Patriots in turn went 11 and 5, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2002. But even that year, the Patriots had hope.
At that point in time, their backup was a guy named Matt Cassel, a fast QB that in the years before, had smacked together a passer rating of 80.3. We had hope and eventually, we were confirmed of our cautious glee when Cassel led the Patriots to a final record just 1 win away from the division title and in-turn a playoff spot.
But going on 6 seasons later, things have changed. Cassel is gone and who do we have? Ryan Mallett and TIM TEBOW, not two names that make you think victory. Yes Tebow has some playoff experience but really he is a running quarterback with NO arm and he is seated on a team built around the passing of a QB who has only rushed for 748 yards in 14 years...Tebow has almost quadrupled that in just 4 seasons.
So Tebow is not your answer but when you think about it, neither is Mallet. With Tebow possessing the ability to run, Mallet can’t and frankly he can't really through either.
Long story short the New England Patriots have no backup who can get them to the playoffs meaning that at this point in time, all that we can hope for is that we are all hallucinating and that Tom Brady will return.
He is one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL and THE most important player judging by the crucial nature of his play to his team...and now, he may be injured.
